Native of Monterrey, México, Daniel moved to the U.S when he was 19 years old to pursue his dream of racing in NASCAR. He has shared that he didn’t have enoughenough have money at that time to buy himself English classes, so he learned by watching movies and watching cartoons.

In 2016, Daniel became the first driver born outside the United States to win a major NASCAR championship when he took the NASCAR Xfinity Series trophy.

During the 2022 season, Daniel broke yet another NASCAR record by becoming the first Mexican-born driver to win a Cup Series race.
